McEwen Stakes 2012 Field Features Quality Sprinters

One of the most exciting races on Saturday’s Moonee Valley (1000m) card is set to be the Group 3 2012 McEwen Stakes (1000m) which will feature a number of quality sprinters.

Golden Archer

Golden Archer will continue his spring campaign in Saturday's McEwen Stakes

Headlining the field is the Peter Moody-trained Golden Archer who has been in scintillating form since returning from injury in July.

The four-year-old won first-up at Flemington before finishing runner-up in the Aurie’s Star Handicap and winning the Listed Heath 1100.

With Black Caviar out for the spring, Golden Archer stands as Moody’s premier sprinter and will come from barrier six with regular jockey Luke Nolen aboard.

Golden Archer could potentially feature in some Group 1 sprints this spring as could fellow McEwen Stakes starter Bel Sprinter.

The talented Jason Warren-trained gelding got a taste of the top tier in the autumn when sixth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate and ninth in the Galaxy.

Ben Melham has ridden the son of Bel Esprit in all but one of his nine career starts and he will again be in the saddle this weekend.

Jumping from the inside barrier and likely to five the field something to chase is the Marc Conners-trained Didntcostalot.

The aptly-named $3000 purchase at the 2012 Magic Millions National Yearling sale got his spring off to a good start at a Wednesday meeting last month when winning by two lengths at Sandown.

One of the most consistent performers in the nine-horse field is Darren Weir-trained mare Platelet who has only missed a place once from 13 starts.

Other McEwen Stakes runners are former Hong Kong galloper Green Birdie and the Leon Corstens-trained Snitzem.

If you think you have a winner picked for Saturday’s exciting sprint head to who have excellent value prices.
