Kingston Town Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

There is no shortage of quality stayers in Saturday’s Group 3 2012 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) which will take place at Rosehill as part of a bumper Golden Rose Day card.

Strawberry Boy

Strawberry Boy needs to win the Kingston Town Stakes to improve his Caulfield Cup chances

Chris Waller has a strong hand with both The Verminator and Stout Hearted accepting while Gai Waterhouse has the promising Strawberry Boy.

Strawberry Boy was originally headed towards the Naturalism Stakes in Melbourne on Saturday week but fears that he would miss the field led Waterhouse to back him up just seven days after winning at Warwick Farm.

Waterhouse is hoping the talented four-year-old can make the Caulfield Cup and needs to win on Saturday to improve his position in the order of entry.

The son of Redoute’s Choice has won four of five starts including two dominant victories since beginning his spring campaign at Warwick Farm last month.

“He’s more than a nice horse, he’s so exciting, he’s got so much upside,” Waterhouse said after the most recent win.

“I think he is a real Caulfield Cup horse, a real Caulfield Cup horse.”

A number of Kingston Town runners are being aimed at the Group 1 Metropolitan in October and one of those is Crafty Irna.

The Ron Quinton-trained mare has been in terrific form since resuming last month with a narrow second to Dystopia in the Listed Toy Show Quality.

Other Kingston Town Stakes runners include Canberra gelding Voice Commander, former BMW winner Fiumicino, John O’Shea-trained Tigress Lily and Kerry Parker’s Nextanix.
