Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes 2012 Field Headed by Rekindled Interest

Cox Plate placegetter Rekindled Interest headlines a strong 12-horse field for Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Rekindled Interest

Rekindled Interest will defend his title in the Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes on Saturday

The five-year-old won the event last year on the way to a Cox Plate third placing and trainer Jim Conlan is confident he can again impress.

“He loves this track, everyone knows that,” Conlan said.

“Every time he comes here he runs well and I’m pretty sure he’ll run well on Saturday.”

The statistics tell the story with Rekindled Interest at Moonee Valley, with two wins a third and a fourth from four starts showing he has a genuine liking for the tight-turning track.

But it will be no easy task to claim back-to-back honours this weekend with a number of classy horses in the field including Caulfield Cup favourite Green Moon.

The Lloyd Williams-owned six-year-old returned with an eye-catching run to finish fifth in the Memsie Stakes and will be having his first hit-out at Moonee Valley.

On trial for a start in the Cox Plate is Happy Trails who will be having his third start of a spring campaign that has already shown plenty of promise.

The Adelaide five-year-old kicked off his journey with a win in the Group 3 Spring Stakes before finishing second to Sincero in the Memsie Stakes.

Using Saturday’s feature as a spring kickoff point is Ethiopia who has been nominated for the big staying races this spring.

The Pat Carey-trained gelding won the Group 1 Australian Derby in stunning style when coming from the back of the field to beat home Polish Knight.

Other Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes entrants include imports Sneak A Peek and Midas Touch as well as the Jake Stephens-trained Alcopop.

The Dato’ Tan Chin Nam can often prove a good telling point for a number of spring features so pay attention and back a winner with bookmaker.com.au.
