Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Just 10 three-year-olds have accepted for a run in the Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday September 15, 2012.
Kabayan has drawn the inside barrier for the $1 million race.
The Haradsun gelding will go into the 2012 Golden Rose second-up after placing a close second in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes at Caulfield last start.
Kabayan has won just one of his four race starts, however, trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident he will claim the title this weekend.
“I’ve got the winner, I’ve already told you that,” Waterhouse said on the weekend.
Unbeaten filly Nechita will be looking to continue her unbeaten streak with a win in the 2012 Golden Rose.
The Fastnet Rock filly won her last start in the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse last start and will be second-up going into the 2012 Golden Rose.
Patinack Farm Racing CEO, Peter Beer, believes Nechita is entitled to a run in the 2012 Golden Rose.
“We just thought that Nechita was going so well so she should have a chance,” Beer said.
Nechita drew gate six for the race, however, Beer admitted that he wasn’t overly concerned going into today’s barrier draw.
“I think the barrier was the least of our worries. She’ll ping away,” he said.
“This is a step up again against the colts. It’s going to be a very hard race to win.”
Trainer Anthony Cummings has accepted with Your Song and Ninth Legion in the 2012 Golden Rose.
Your Song has drawn wide in barrier nine for the race, which will make things hard for the on-pace runner.
“It’s always a challenge for a horse like Your Song who also races there abouts in the speed,” Cummings said.
“He can’t come out halfhearted from that barrier… and it’s going to make his task a little tougher.
“Both horses ran very well and I really think they’ll be in the finish in this race this weekend.”
Jockey Hugh Bowman will be attempting to win the Golden Rose for the fourth time in its 10 year history this weekend aboard Ninth Legion, who drew gate five.
“It’s not a bad barrier,” Bowman said.
“I’ll be able to settle a bit close than I did (when finishing fourth) in The Run To The Rose the other day.
“It’s been a good race to me and it’s been a good race for Sydney racing too because it’s really produced some champion three-year-olds.”
Absent from the 2012 Golden Rose final field and barrier draw is All Too Hard, who will instead be targeted towards the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday September 22, 2012.
