Tiger Tees Upsets Stablemate to win 2012 Concorde Stakes

Rain Affair was all the rage with punters but it was stablemate Tiger Tees who performed more like an odds-on favourite in the Group 3 2012 Concorde Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm today.

Tiger Tees has upset their more fancied stablemate Rain Affair to win the 2012 Concorde Stakes at Warwick Farm

Trainer Joe Pride declared Rain Affair as a class above his rivals during the week but after getting out of the stalls quickly he was unable to bound away in his usual fashion and was reeled in by the top of the straight.

His stablemate however tucked in just behind him and found an extra gear to bolt clear and claim a comfortable victory ahead of Mrs Onassis and Satin Shoes.

Pride may have to rethink spring plans for Rain Affair who laboured to finish in fourth position and 4 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

The Warwick Farm-based trainer was full of praise for the winner and said he hasn’t ruled out targeting some Group 1 sprints this spring.

“Fantastic, accelerated well, sat there was always in a good position,” Pride said.

“The race I’ve always had in mind for him was the Salinger but I haven’t ruled anything out.”

Pride said he would wait and see how Rain Affair pulled up from today’s run but admitted he performed well below expected.

“I just want to see how he pulls up. He looked a little bit awkward in the straight, he couldn’t get away from him at the corner,” he said.

With Christian Reith suspended, Peter Robl was in the saddle of Tiger Tees for the first time and admitted delight at today’s performance.

“He’s a winner this horse and he’s a bulldog and when he ranged up to them I knew he had them beat,” Robl said.

“He’s a winner and horses that are winners generally remain that way.”
