Psychic Mick Out to Remain Unbeaten – 2012 Danehill Stakes

Psychic Mick will be out to keep his unbeaten streak alive when he takes on classy filly Snitzerland in tomorrow’s Group 2 2012 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

The Adelaide-based gelding has shown impressive finishing ability in his four starts to date including a 3 1/2 length win in the Vain Stakes last outing.

Since debuting in January, the son of Shinzig has stepped up to every challenge set and trainer Daniel Clarken is hoping he can again rise to the task this weekend.

“He is a very good horse. How good he is, we’ll probably find out a bit more tomorrow,” Clarken said.

“It is another step up. Snitzerland is a very smart galloper but if we can chase that down we’ll know that we’ve got something pretty special on our hands.”

The talented three-year-old is nominated for the Caulfield Guineas and Clarken said tomorrow’s race will give a good indication as to whether that is the right path to take.

“Whether we take that avenue, we’ll probably have a bit more of an idea about that tomorrow as well,” Clarken said.

Despite the Vain Stakes being run on a heavy track and taking a lot out of the promising three-year-old Clarken is confident he is in good shape for Saturday’s Group 2 test.

“This week he has really bounced. He looks great in the coat, good in the eye and his work has been A1. I can’t fault him at all,” he said.

Currently rated a $5.00 chance, the talented youngster is second favourite behind odds-on favourite Snitzerland ($1.70).

Gerald Ryan’s filly got her spring campaign off to a flyer las month when she led from start to finish to take out the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes in Sydney.

She returns to Flemington where she excelled as a two-year-old to win the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes by three lengths.
