Classy filly Snitzerland is expected to continue her early spring form in Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.
The exciting youngster is a short-priced $1.75 favourite at bookmaker.com.au to win the second start of her spring campaign after leading from start to finish in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes in Sydney last month.
A runner-up to Pierro in the Golden Slipper, Snitzerland excelled at Flemington earlier this year when winning the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes by three lengths.
Trainer Gerald Ryan said earlier this week that he was particularly pleased with her work at home both last Friday and on Monday morning.
“She always does well but I was particularly pleased with her work on Friday morning and again today [Monday] when she had a course proper gallop at Rosehill,” Ryan said.
Only two other horses are really given a chance at least as far as the market is concerned with Psychic Mick ($4.80) and Rusambo ($7.50) the next best.
Adelaide-based gelding Psychic Mick has won all four of his career starts including an impressive 3 1/2 length victory in the Vain Stakes on August 18.
After a difficult start to his career where he failed to win in his first six starts, Rusambo has come on strongly as a three-year-old to win his last two starts including the Listed McKenzie Stakes.
There is no shortage of horses nominated for bigger spring races in Saturday’s three-year-old feature including the unbeaten Stralia ($12.00).
The talented son of Stratum produced consecutive victories when debuting in July and has been entered for the Caulfield Guineas.
Other Danehill Stakes runners are Murcielaga ($10.00), Pronto Pronto ($13.00) and Cambiaso ($26.00).
