Joe Pride’s stable star Rain Affair is set to kick off his spring campaign in winning style. At least if the 2012 Concorde Stakes (1100m) betting market is anything to go by.
The talented front-runner resumes in the Group 3 sprint on Saturday for which he is currently a $1.95 favourite at bookmaker.com.au.
Pride said earlier this week that while the son of Commands is not at his best first-up he should have the class to beat home the eight other horses in the Concorde Stakes field.
“I know his fitness isn’t as good first up as it is third up….but it’s a class of race that is below him,” Pride said.
Pride said Tiger Tees had residual fitness from his Brisbane winter campaign where won the Group 3 BRC Sprint and finished eighth in the Stradbroke Handicap.
“I would expect to see him right there in the running maybe running second or third,” he said.
Atomic Force is having the second start of his spring campaign after kicking off with a fourth-place effort in the Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.
Another horse falling under double figures for the major sprint on the Warwick Farm card is Clarry Connors-trained Satin Shoes ($9.50).
The daughter of Flying Spur hasn’t won since October last year but finished a close second to rain Affair in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes in March.
Other runners in the Concorde Stakes market are Torio’s Quest ($12.00), last-start winner Mrs Onassis ($15.00) and the Darley-owned Aerobatics ($26.00).
