Bobbie Lewis Quality 2012 Betting an Open Affair

With 19 horses in the race it is always going to be tough to find a winner and as such there is plenty of value to be had in Saturday’s Group 3 2012 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington.

Mosheen returns in Saturday's Bobbie Lewis Quality

The exciting $150,000 sprint features a mixture of horses having their first spring start as well as a number of runners with late winter and early spring form.

There is no clear favourite with Mark Kavanagh’s We’re Gonna Rock ($5.50) currently topping the betting market ahead of classy mare Mosheen ($6.00).

A winner of four of 14 starts, We’re Gonna Rock was last seen running second to Black Caviar in the Goodwood at Morphetville in May.

Mosheen meanwhile is having her first start since an early spring setback where she required a throat operation after excelling during the autumn with three Group 1 wins.

Shanghai Warrior ($6.50) and Smokin’ Joey ($8.00) are two other horses that fall under double figures for the Bobbie Lewis.

The Pat Hyland-trained Shanghai Warrior is being aimed at the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Toorak Handicap after an impressive one-length win ahead of Golden Archer in the Aurie’s Star Handicap.

Smokin’ Joey won three consecutive races towards the end of the autumn including twice at stakes level before finishing last in the BRC Sprint at Doomben in May.

The son of Encosta De Lago produced a strong trial late last month and will be ridden by Steven Arnold from barrier 13.

Other horses contesting the Bobbie Lewis Quality include Joe Pride’s Title ($10.00), Speediness ($13.00), the in form Freereturn ($15.00) and Queensland gelding Spirit Of Boom ($17.00).
