Snitzerland Heads 2012 Danehill Stakes Field

Classy filly Snitzerland heads the field for Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

Snitzerland

Snitzerland is the standout horse in the Danehill Stakes field

The Golden Slipper runner-up burst out of the gates in the first start of her spring campaign to lead from start to finish when beating Driefontein and All Too Hard in the San Domenico Stakes last month.

The talented sprinter will be having her first run in Melbourne since March when she showed a liking for Flemington when winning the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes by three lengths.

While the Gerald Ryan-trained filly will start as a clear favourite, unbeaten gelding Psychic Mick stands as one of the most likely challengers.

After going undefeated in three starts as a two-year-old, the Adelaide-based youngster returned in dominant fashion on August 18 to win the Vain Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths.

Pyschic Mick will start from barrier seven which is not too far away from race favourite Snitzerland (3).

Also in form is the Darley-owned Rusambo who kicked off his campaign with a win in early August and backed it up to win the Listed McKenzie Stakes on August 25.

Having their first stakes test on Saturday is promising Mark Riley-trained colt Stralia who is nominated for the Caulfield Guineas.

The promising son of Stratum went undefeated in the first two starts of career in July where he showed a great appreciation for the Flemington straight.

Other interesting Danehill Stakes contenders include Murcielaga, who won on debut at Warrnambool in May and has been nominated for Cox Plate, and debutant Swift Exit.
