Brisbane carnival star Sizzling will venture south this spring and attempt to add a second Group 1 title to his resume in the 2012 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in November.
The Kelso Wood-trained three-year-old was one of the highlights of the Queensland winter as he emerged unbeaten from four starts.
After beginning his campaign with a 4 1/2 length win in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast, Sizzling went on to win the Group 2 Champagne Classic, the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Group 1 TJ Smith.
The talented colt has been back in work for five weeks and Wood said he has developed physically ahead of his first trip to Melbourne.
“He has come back well and has built up well physically and seems to have made to transition from a two to three-year-old,” Wood said.
Already boasting a career record of five wins and a prize pool of nearly $800,000, Wood is confident he can add to that this spring.
“I’m pretty confident he can give us another group one win,” Wood said.
While the exact spring schedule hasn’t been decided for the impressive colt, Wood said he would begin his campaign in the newly-formed $250,000 Blue Sapphire on October 13.
Leading Brisbane jockey Chris Munce has ridden Sizzling in all eight of his career starts and is almost certain to accompany him during his Melbourne campaign.
The Munce-Wood combination has proven highly successful in Queensland in recent times with the star hoop also piloting Belltone to two stakes victories and a Group 2 second during the Queensland winter.
