Talented filly Dear Demi will continue her journey to the 2012 Crown Oaks this weekend when she lines up in the Group 2 2012 Furious Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.
The Clarry Connors-trained three-year-old hit the line impressively in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) to finish third and is likely to improve with an extra 200 metres this weekend.
The daughter of Dehere won at stakes level as a two-year-old and Connors admitted he was “tickled pink” with her first run in three-year-old company.
The Warwick Farm trainer is expecting her improve throughout the Princess Series on her way to the major spring goal of the Oaks in Melbourne.
“She’s come along nice and she’s not a 1200-metre horse,” Connors said.
“Her main aim is Melbourne with the Oaks but these races coming up now, the Furious, the Tea Rose and the Flight in Sydney are really nice races for a filly like her.”
Joining Dear Demi in the Furious Stakes for Connors is Ciao who is also a filly who is being aimed at longer races.
“She just wants further this filly,” Connors said.
“We’re throwing her in the deep end a bit I know that but it’s a three-year-old fillies’ race.
“She worked with Dear Demi this morning and went nearly as good as her. You’ve got to give them a try.”
Joining the pair in the Furious Stakes this weekend are a number of talented fillies who are being targeted at big spring features.
Among the most notable entries are Golden Slipper fourth placegetter Doubtfilly, New Zealand filly Pussy Willow and Patinack Thousand Guineas hope Roll The Bones.
