Samaready Ruled out of 2012 Spring Racing Carnival

Blue Diamond Stakes winning filly Samaready has officially been ruled out of a spring racing carnival return with trainer Mick Price making the announcement on the weekend.

Samaready has been sent to the paddock and will miss the remainder of the spring carnival

The star More Than Ready three-year-old, a winner of four of her six career starts to date including the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes, is suffering from a minor bug and failing to come good has been sent to the spelling paddock to recover, the decision made after Price discussed options with Samaready’s co-owner and breeder Peter Orton from Vinery Stud.

“He was of the opinion that she’s struggled to come up for the spring, as happens with some fillies,” Price explained.

Third to star colt Pierro in the Golden Slipper back in April Samaready resumed racing at Caulfield on August 18 when she finished a disappointing fourth when beaten over eight lengths in the wet by Elite Elle in the Listed Quezette Stakes (1100m).

She was then missing from Saturday’s $150,000 Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) acceptances late last week before eventually having her entire spring carnival campaign shelved.

Samaready, who has already amassed over $1.2 million in prize money, will be given time to fully recuperate before being bought back for the autumn.

“We’ve given her time for her to bloom, and it hasn’t happened, and she’s got a bug and things just aren’t working out for her, so the autumn’s a good time for fillies, and that’s most probably when you’ll see her next,” Price said.

Samaready had been nominated for both the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse on Wednesday October 13, as well as up against the boys in the $1 million Group 1 The Age Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at the track three days before.

There is still plenty of talent in this season’s crop of three-year-olds heading towards the spring majors, most obviously the Gai Waterhouse-trained Pierro who is the current Cox Plate betting favourite.
