Rain Affair Tops 2012 Concorde Stakes Nominations

Manikato Stakes-bound Rain Affair heads a quality list of nominations for the Group 3 2012 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Warwick Farm this weekend.

Rain Affair

Rain Affair Heads nominations for the Concorde Stakes

The Joe Pride-trained sprinter will head to Melbourne to chase his first Group 1 victory but will kick off his campaign at his home track on Saturday.

A winner of 11 of 15 starts including five at stakes level, Rain Affair was unable to breakthrough in three tests at the top level in the autumn but did finish second in both the TJ Smith Stakes and the All Aged Stakes.

Among the horses he will have to beat on Saturday is his stablemate Tiger Tees who races in a similar front-running style to Rain Affair.

Also boasting an excellent record, eight wins from 12 starts, the son of Dubawi won both the Listed Hall Mark Stakes and Group 3 BRC Sprint in the autumn before struggling at Group 1 level in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Joining the pair in kicking in having their first race of the spring is talented Clarry Connors-trained mare Satin Shoes.

The 2011 Silver Slipper winner had a mixed autumn that was highlighted by a runner-up finish to Rain Affair in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse, who had a winning treble at Rosehill on Saturday, has one nomination with promising gelding Nobby Snip.

The talented four-year-old won his first three races in the autumn, including twice at stakes level, before finishing second to Temple Of Boom in the Group 1 Galaxy.

Other horses nominated for the Concorde Stakes include Group 1 winner Atomic Force, last-start winner Mrs Onassis and Anthony Cummings-trained Upbeat.
