Peter Moody-trained sprinter Golden Archer sent an ominous warning to trainers of the nations best sprinters on Saturday when he produced a strong performance to win the Listed 2012 Heath 1100.
In his third start since coming back from injury, on the back of first and second place finishes, the talented four-year-old took up a lead early in the race and that was where he stayed.
Ridden by Moody’s stable jockey Luke Nolen, his position was never in doubt as he scored a 1 1/2 length win ahead of Mr Make Believe and Platelet.
The performance led Moody to declare the son of Rock Of Gibraltar as in the best six sprinters in the country meaning he could feature in some big races this spring.
On the immediate agenda for the winner of eight of 13 starts are the McKewen Stakes on September 15 and the Schillaci Stakes in October.
”I think he’s in the top half-dozen sprinters in the country,” Moody said.
It was a quinella for Moody who saw veteran gelding Mr Make Believe run a strong race to take second spot ahead of consistent mare Platelet.
Mr Make Believe suffered an infection in his knee over the summer but appears to be back to his best to contest a number of Listed and Group 3 races this spring.
Platelet continued her amazing ability to finish in the top three and from 13 starts has only missed a place on one occasion.
