Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Tassie gelding Banca Mo will continue their raid in Melbourne this Saturday when they jump favourite in the Slickpix Stakes 2012 at Caulfield Racecourse.
The David & Scott Brunton-trained Tough Speed five-year-old made their interstate debut at Caulfield back in May running a brave second over the mile before going on to run second again at Flemington over 1700m in June.
Fourteen days later they raced again at Flemington over 1800m and caught the eye when putting a massive eight lengths on their closest rival Sister Norma, Banca Mo relishing the drop back from 59kg to 53.5kg.
They posted another Melbourne win last time out on August 4 at Moonee Valley when winning the $100,000 Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Handicap (2040m), again with 53.5kg on their back, and this weekend will vie for the maiden stakes success in the $120,000 Listed Slickpix Stakes (1700m) where they will carry just 54kg.
Running as Caulfield Race 7 at 4:10pm the 2012 Slickpix Stakes field features 16 starters with only one emergency left following the withdrawal of Sysmo who will run at Morphettville on Saturday instead.
In the early Slickpix Stakes betting markets Banca Mo is the clear $3.50 favourite after drawing barrier four, apprentice hoop Ben Knobel retaining the ride.
Only three of Banca Mo’s rivals are under $10 in the current Slickpix Stakes odds with:
- #5 Streets Away ($7) – Darren Weir-trained six-year-old has won their last two on the trot over the mile, most recently at Caulfield on August 18 in the wet, will appreciate any rain to soften the track
- #2 Tanby ($7.50) – Lloyd Williams-owned Galileo gelding ran second to subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden in the Geelong Cup last spring before winning the Bendigo Cup, hasn’t done much since but should improve getting up in distance
- #3 Avienus ($9) – Mark Webb’s seven-year-old Reset mare comes off a close second over 1410m at Flemington when carrying 57.5kg, drops back to 55kg for this, ran second at this track and distance last September behind Extra Zero and looks a good place bet
Other longer-priced hopefuls with claims for an upset then include Ciaron Maher’s consistent local galloper Mr O’Ceirin ($11), and Galileo Gold ($12) and Forty Thirty ($13) who ran third and second respectively behind Streets Away at the track last time out.
