Premier’s Cup 2012 – Strong Field Named

A quality 10-horse field has been announced to contest the Listed 2012 Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Stout Hearted

Included in the quality Premier's Cup field is Chris Waller's Stout Hearted

Almost all the horses in the field will be aimed at Group 1 staying events throughout the spring including the in-form Stout Hearted.

One of three Chris Waller-trained horses in the Premier’s Cup field, the promising stayer is being aimed at the Metropolitan in October and will be chasing a third consecutive victory this weekend.

The two other Waller entrants in Saturday’s $100,000 event, The Verminator and Permit, already have plenty of stakes experience and will kick off their spring journeys on Saturday.

The Verminator took out last year’s Metropolitan while Permit won both the Listed Manion Cup and the Group 2 Chairman’s Quality at the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Stepping out for the Gai Waterhouse stable is import Glencadam Gold who has been rated by the hall of fame trainer as a Caulfield Cup contender.

The former British stayer, once trained by Sir Henry Cecil, impressed in his first start on Australian soil earlier this month when winning at Canterbury.

Sydney Cup fourth placegetter Nextanix made an impressive spring start two weeks ago when second to Kontiki Park over 1400 metres at Rosehill and he will appreciate the step up in distance this weekend.

Trained by Kerry Parker at Kembla Grange, the son of Domesday has been nominated for botht he Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup as well as the Epsom Handicap and Metropolitan.

Other horses set to run in Saturday’s Premier’s Cup include former BMW winner Fiumicino and recent Sydney winner Brave The Way.

For the best Premier’s Cup odds when markets open shortly, head to and back a great value winner.
