Rangirangdoo Headlines 2012 The Metropolitan Nominations

The first round of nominations have been released for the Group 1 The Metropolitan, which is set to run at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday October 6, 2012.

A total of 97 horses have been nominated for the race, including Rangirangdoo.

The eight-year-old is set to make his return to spring racing, despite the many injuries that have hindered his racing career.

Rangirangdoo, who is also nominated for the Group 1 Epsom Handicapon the same day, will be aimed at longer distances this season.

Rangirangdoo is one of 97 nominations for the 2012 The Metropolitan.

Trainer Chris Waller feels that the Pentire gelding will be well suited to the 2012 The Metropolitan’s 2,400 metre distance.

“I think this spring might be the time to try him over the longer trip,” Waller said.

“He will be nominated for both the Epsom and the Metropolitan.”

Up until now, Rangirangdoo has not won over anything greater than a mile, however, the gelding finished second by a nose in the 2,000 metre Group 1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill Gardens in March this year.

Rangirangdoo is incredibly lightly races for his age, having had just 28 race starts.

The dual Group 1 winning galloper has claimed ten victories so far during his career and has earned more than $2.13 million in prize money.

Waller has also nominated The Verminator for the 2012 The Metropolitan, who won last year’s edition of the race.

David Vandyke will also be represented by Lamasery, who is returning from a year-long hiatus due to injury.

Lamasery began his spring campaign in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes last start, where he finished a gallant fourth behind winner Pinwheel.

The six-year-old has won 10 of his 19 race starts and has earned more than $460,000 in prize money.

Maluckyday, Racing Heart and Polish Knight are also included in the 2012 The Metropolitan nominations.
