Wyong Cup Next for 2012 The Metropolitan Hope Kelinni

Chris Waller’s in-form five-year-old Kelinni will race next up in the Wyong Cup after a big win at Warwick Farm again on Saturday which will be used as a possible lead up to The Metropolitan Handicap 2012 in October.

Kelinni look to hand Chris Waller with his third stright win in the 2012 Wyong Cup next month

Lightly raced for their age the Refuse To Bend gelding saluted in their sixth victory from 14 starts on Saturday when they kicked things off at Warwick Farm with a good one and a quarter length success over the Gai Waterhouse-trained Julienas in the $85,000 Australian Turf Club Handicap (2200m).

“He is a fit horse in form and he dug deep,” Waller said after the win.

“It’s hard to get past one of Gai’s and it was a good ride from Glyn (Schofield).”

It was their second win at the track and distance on the trot, Kelinni shaping up as a genuine Sydney Spring Racing Carnival contender for Waller.

They are yet to race against stakes’ company but that is set to change Waller naming the $150,000 Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) on September 7 as the horse’s next assignment.

“I think he is an ideal type for the Wyong Cup and that will be his next start,” Waller confirmed.

Waller has won the past two editions of the Wyong Cup with Hawk Island (2010), and last year’s winner The Verminator who went on to win The Metropolitan two starts later.

It is this same Wyong Cup – The Metropolitan double Waller will vie for during the 2012 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with Kelinni.

The $400,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) runs at Royal Randwick on October 6 with nominations to be taken next week, Waller to nominate Kelinni along with five or six other horses from the stable.

“He is one of six or seven we will nominate next week for the Metropolitan,” Waller said.
