Mick Price’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready leads the HDF McNeil Stakes 2012 nominations which have now been released ahead of the Caulfield feature in Melbourne this Saturday.
Won 12 months ago by Golden Archer, this year’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) attracted 23 nominations including exciting More Than Ready filly Samaready.
A winner of her opening four career starts last season, including the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes over the HDF McNeil Stakes track and distance, Samaready suffered her first loss when finishing a brave third behind Pierro and Snitzerland in the Golden Slipper.
She resumed at Caulfield on August 18 but could only manage to finish eight and a half lengths away fourth to Elite Falls in the Listed Quezette Stakes (1100m), Samaready unsuited to the Heavy track conditions of the day.
Current third favourite at $7.50 for the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill next month during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, Samaready is sure to improve on Saturday on a firmer track over more ground.
The other boom nominee for the HDF McNeil Stakes is All Too Hard.
The crack Nathan Tinkler-owned colt won’t be in Melbourne on the weekend however, connections instead opting to take them to Rosehill where they will take on Pierro in the $125,000 Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) ahead of the Golden Rose 2012 on September 15.
Also included in the HDF McNeil Stakes nominations for 2012 are four three-year-olds yet to taste defeat.
The two top youngsters that will go into the race undefeated should they accept are the Tony Vasil-trained Elite Elle and Daniel Clarken’s Morphettville visitor Psychic Mick, both to chase their fifth career win.
Shamardal filly Elite Elle scored one of the upsets of the season when she defeated Samaready (fourth) among others in the Quezette Stakes, the known mudlark looking to continue her magic streak on Saturday.
Psychic Mick meanwhile also comes off their debut stakes win in the wet having also saluted at Caulfield on August 18 when scoring a big three and a half length victory in the listed Vain Stakes (1100m).
Then there is the Clinton McDonald-trained Royal Rada who won their race debut at Bairnsdale by four lengths back in May but who faces a steep class rise here, and Mark Riley’s Startum colt Stralia who won their opening two career starts down the Flemington straight in July.
