Rusambo Continues Guineas Campaign with 2012 McKenzie Stakes Win

Darley colt Rusambo continued his impressive form on Saturday when winning the Listed 2012 McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

It was the second consecutive victory for the son of Elusive Quality who is nominated for October’s Group 1 2012 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Rusambo scored their second consecutive victory in the Listed McKenzie Stakes 2012

With Vlad Duric in the saddle, the three-year-old finished off the race in impressive fashion to just edge out Dominant and Adjuster.

Despite going winless in his first six starts, the Darley camp have always had a big opinion of Rusambo and are excited he is beginning to live up to his potential.

Trainer Peter Snowden‘s son Paul was on hand for Saturday’s victory and believes he will be able to cope at increased distances in the future.

“We’re hoping he can get the 1600m, but there’s every reason to think he can,” Paul Snowden said.

“Every start we’ve raised the bar and so far he’s handled it.”

It was also an impressive first-up performance from Dominant who has been nominated for both the Cox Plate and Caulfield Guineas.

The Mornington-based gelding has had behavioural problems in the past but showed he is beginning to mature and was only narrowly beaten by Rusambo.

It was just the second start of his career after debuting with a runner-up finish in April in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes.

Pter Moody-trained colt started among the top-rated chances but was disappointing in the run and eventually finished in seventh position.
