Premier’s Cup 2012 – Strong Nominations Announced

A quality listed of 14 horses have been nominated for the Listed 2012 Premier’s Cup (1800m) which will take place as part of an exciting Rosehill card on Saturday.

Stout Hearted

Stout Hearted is one of the top Premier's Cup nominations

Among the classy list of entrants is the in-form Stout Hearted who is likely to be aimed at the Group 1 Metropolitan in October.

The former British stayer is chasing a third consecutive victory after a strong 4 1/2 length victory at Canterbury earlier this month was backed up with a win in the Premier’s Cup Prelude on August 18.

But this weekend’s test stands as a far tougher assignment with the likes of Permit, The Verminator, Glencadam Gold and Nextanix included in nominations.

Permit and The Verminator join Stout Hearted as nominated horses from the Chris Waller camp and both have excellent credentials.

Permit won both the Listed Manion Cup and Group 2 Chairman’s Quality as part of a solid autumn campaign while The Verminator took out last year’s Metropolitan.

Recent addition to the Gai Waterhouse stable Glencadam Gold has been touted as a potential Caulfield Cup contender and impressed with a first-up win at Canterbury.

Also being set on a Caulfield Cup path is Nextanix who had a solid autumn camapaign and impressed first-up when running second to Contiki Park over 1400 metres.

The son of Domesday finished third in the Group 2 Chairman’s Quality in August and also finished fourth to Niwot in the Sydney Cup.

Stepping out for Anthony Cummings is the Metropolitan-bound Brave The Way who won two starts since being transferred to Cummings from Queensland before finishing fourth to Stout Hearted in the Premier’s Cup Prelude.

Other horses nominated for the Premier’s Cup include Premier’s Cup Prelude runner-up Gazza Guru and Queensland gelding Topping.
