Golden Rose Possibility After Nechita Wins 2012 Silver Shadow Stakes

A dominant win in the Group 3 2012 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) has proven Patinack filly Nechita is up to the Group 1 Golden Rose but how All Too Hard performs this weekend will determine whether she lines up.

Nechita is a possible Golden Rose runner after a dominant win in the Silver Shadow Stakes

All Too Hard, also owned by Patinack, will compete in Saturday’s 2012 Run To The Rose and if all goes to plan it will be a step on the road to Golden Rose glory.

However, his inclusion in the field would see Nechita saved for the Princess Series as Patinack are unlikely to risk getting their stallion prospect beaten by Nechita in the $1 million three-year-old feature.

The exciting filly lived up to the hype on Saturday, sitting mid-field before showing an electrifying turn of foot in the straight to win by two lengths ahead of Meidung and Dear Demi.

It was just the second start of the three-year-old’s career but that didn’t stop punters nationwide throwing their support behind the daughter of Fastnet Rock and by race jump she was odds-on at $1.90.

Half way up the straight punters were relieved as she justified the support and showed she was destined for bigger things this spring.

Trainer John Thompson had previously spruiked Nechita as one of the most exciting prospects he had trained and he was again full of praise following Saturday’s win.

“I’ve had a lot of good horses over the years and you’d have to say she’s just as promising as any that I’ve had anything to do with,” Thompson said.

“It was a confident ride and a confident win. It was good to see her put them away.”

Thompson said the call as to whether Nechita would go to the Golden Rose would be left up to Patinack owner Nathan Tinkler but admitted it was unlikely that she would take on All Too Hard.

“It means more to the company for the colt to win it. We’ll see how he goes next week. But she is in good shape,” he said.
