Back-to-Back for Pinwheel in 2012 Warwick Stakes

Darley veteran Pinwheel showed he still has plenty left to give as he took out the Group 2 2012 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

The son of Lonhro won the Warwick Farm feature last year and was just as impressive this time around as he bolted home to edge out Secret Admirer and Danleigh.

Pinwheel made it back-to-back wins in the Warwick Stakes

The seven-year-old joined his sire Lonhro as a dual winner of the Warwick Stakes and trainer Peter Snowden struggled to hold back his admiration for the stable favourite.

“No horse deserves it more than he does,” Snowden said.

After going nearly 12 months without victory, Pinwheel has bounced back in impressive fashion this campaign, having also scored a first-up win in the Group 3 Missile Stakes two weeks ago.

Saturday’s victory took the experienced sprinter’s career prize pool past the $1 million mark and his record to 12 wins from 34 starts.

Snowden admitted he is not a Group 1 contender but praised his ability to give 100 percent every race.

“I’m his biggest admirer. I know he’s not a Group One horse but he just gives his all,” he said.

Pinwheel’s next hitout is likely to be in the Group 2 Theo Marks (1400m) in three weeks time at Rosehill.

Cups hopeful Lights Of Heaven finished 11th but trainer Peter Moody remained unconcerned and said last campaign’s first-up run was similar.

Recent Gai Waterhouse stable addition Rock ‘N’ Pop laboured to finish 12th and was found to have pulled up lame.
