Silver Shadow Stakes 2012 – Preview and Tips

A number of high quality three-year-old fillies will kick off their spring campaign this weekend in the Group 3 2012 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm.

In what is the first race of the Princess Series for three-year-old fillies in Sydney, the Silver Shadow Stakes promises to be an exciting affair.

Nine horses have been named to contest the $125,000 event which is expected to be run in fast, dry conditions tomorrow.

Currently heading the market is Patinack’s boom filly Nechita who is odds-on with at $1.90.

Two other horses are at single figure odds in Ichihara ($5.00) and Single Style ($8.50) while Gerald Ryan-trained pair Cavalry Rose and Flying Snitzel as well as Darley’s Meidung are all being offered at $12.00.

No idea who to back? Don’t have time study the form? Never mind, the experts have been hard at work to bring to you our expert selections.

The Winner

#10 Nechita $1.90

She may have only had one start in her career but she was highly impressive. The Fastnet Rock filly won by nearly four lengths in comfortable fashion on debut in June and Patinack trainer John Thompson rates her the most exciting prospect he has trained.

Jockey Christian Reith, usually quite reserved, was glowing with praise following a track gallop earlier this week and don’t be surprised if you see him riding her to a Group 1 victory this spring.

The Placings

#1 Ichihara $5.00 and #2 Flying Snitzel $12.00

It is always hard to tell whether the form from shown during a juvenile career will continue as a three-year-old but Ichihara has shown obvious potential.

The Allan Denham-trained horse won the first three starts of her career including the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes and is unfortunate still not to be unbeaten after a luckless third in the Kindergarten Stakes.

Flying Snitzel also impressed as a two-year-old with two wins from six starts and she has reportedly showed great improvement in the early stages of her preparation.
