Paul Messara’s multiple stakes placegetter Rekindled Alliance died yesterday after he suffered a heart attack following routine trackwork.
It is devastating news for Messara who is currently in the UK preparing Ortensia for the Group 1 Nunthorpe at York this weekend.
Messara took to twitter to express the sadness the stable is feeling following yesterday’s incident.
“Stable star Rekindled Alliance passed away this morning. He had a heart attack shortly after finishing his work. The stable is devastated,” Messara said.
In his short career the four-year-old entire showed plenty of promise to place four times at stakes level and finish fifth in this year’s Australian Derby.
Among the major highlights for the son of Redoute’s Choice were consecutive runner-up finishes in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes and Tulloch Stakes and a third-place effort in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate.
Rekindled Alliance’s career record stood at one victory and five place finishes from 10 starts and collected prizemoney of $193,000.
