A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
If the market tells the story, the Listed 2012 McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday is set to be an closely run contest.
Three horses currently head the market with Liberty Rock and Awesome Bro the bookmaker.com.au favourites at $4.20 and Rusambo follows closely at $4.80.
Trained by Peter Moody, Liberty Rock won on debut in February before finishing runner-up to All Too Hard in the Listed Talindert Stakes in his only other start.
Both he and the other top two elects have been nominated for the Caulfield Guineas while Awesome Bro will attempt to keep his unbeaten streak alive this weekend.
After winning by 3 1/2 lengths first-up at Swan Hill in July, the son of Darci Brahma impressed in a Sandown mid-week meeting earlier this month when taking victory by 1 /12 lengths.
Rusambo has far more racing experience than the other two, having won once from seven career starts, and is coming into the race on the back of a victory at Moonee Valley on August 4.
Also falling under double figures in the market for the colts and geldings’ feature are Mornington-based Dominant ($6.00), Patinack gelding Maury ($6.50) and last-start winner General Peekay ($9.00).
Dominant finished runner-up in his only start to date in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes in April while Maury finished one spot behind him in third.
Trained by John Thompson, Maury has won two of four starts and will be ridden by Mark Zahra from barrier six this weekend.
Other horses set to line up in the McKenzie Stakes include stakes winner General Rippa (26.00) and outside hope Tennessee Wills ($41.00).
