McKenzie Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Ten colts and geldings will line up in the Listed $120,000 2012 McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Heading the group is unbeaten gelding Awesome Bro who has been nominated for both the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Guineas.

Trained by Leon Corstens, the Darci Brahma three-year-old will be having just the third start of his career and his first Saturday outing after impressing early in his career.

Awesome Bro won at Swan Hill by 3 1/2 lengths on debut before heading to Sandown to win by 1 1/2 lengths over 1000 metres on August 8.

Also nominated for both the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Guineas is Mornington-based gelding Dominant who has had just one career start.

The son of Not A Single Doubt debuted in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes in April where he hit the line well to finish runner-up.

Third in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes was Maury who will run on Saturday in his first start of the spring.

The Patinack-owned gelding has won two of four starts and will be ridden by Mark Zahra from barrier six.

Leading trainer Peter Moody has won runner in the 0-horse field with the Caulfield Guineas nominated Liberty Rock.

After winning on debut at Kyneton in February he backed up the performance later that month to finish runner-up to All Too Hard in the Listed Talindert Stakes.

The McKenzie Stakes stands as an important race leading into the spring as it will decide the path many of these lightly-raced horses take with the ultimate goal for most of the three-year-olds to gain a start in the Caulfield Guineas.
