Quality Warwick Stakes 2012 Nominations Announced

A high quality nominations list has been announced for Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Lights Of Heaven

Lights Of Heaven has been nominated for Saturday's Warwick Stakes

A total of 16 horses have been nominated for the weight-for-age feature with a number of horses to use the race as a starting point ahead of bigger spring races.

Included is Peter Moody-trained Lights Of Heaven who has been touted as one the few Australian horses who may compete with the imports and raiders in the Melbourne Cup.

The Zabeel mare was highly impressive at the Brisbane Winter Carnival, finishing runner-up in the Doomben Cup before recording consecutive three-length victories in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup and Brisbane Cup.

Another mare set to make her return on Saturday is two-time Group 1 winner Secret Admirer who was last seen finishing third to More Joyous in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in April.

The Grahame Begg-trained mare has not won since last year’s Epsom Handicap but had a successful autumn where she placed in the Group 1 Coolmore CLassic, George Ryder Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Also impressive in the autumn was four-year-old gelding Polish Knight who won the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes before finishing a close runner-up to Ethiopia in the Australian Derby.

Lamasery appears set to make a long awaited return to the race track after injury forced the six-year-old to miss the entire autumn carnival.

The David Vandyke-trained gelding has won two barrier trials this month and it is believed he is being aimed at the Caulfield Cup.

Other horses nominated for the Warwick Stakes include multiple Group 1 winner Danleigh, last-start winner Pinwheel and Queensland pair Startsmeup and Bold Glance.
