McKenzie Stakes 2012 Nominations

An impressive nominations list of 19 horses has been announced to contest the Listed 2012 McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at MooneeValley on Saturday.

General Rippa

General Rippa has been included in McKenzie Stakes Nominations

Headlining the group of three-year-old colts and geldings is the David Hayes-trained General Rippa.

The son of General Nediym won the Blue Diamond Prelude on debut in February but failed to make an impact in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

General Rippa has had just one start this campaign for a back-field finish but it came in what was his first race on a wet track.

Runner-up in the Blue Diamond Prelude was fellow McKenzie Stakes entrant Rusambo who faired far better than General Rippa in the main event when fifth to Samaready.

After resuming with a fifth-place effort last month, the Darley-owned colt impressed last start when winning a BM72 event at Moonee Valley.

Also included in McKenzie Stakes nominations is Anthony Freedman-trained colt Baited Breath who impressed on debut in June.

The son of More Than Ready won the Contract Fire Plate by a length at Geelong last month and has been nominated for the Caulfield Guineas.

Nominated for both the Caulfield Guineas and the Cox Plate is New Zealand-bred colt Shamexpress who will be having his first race since March.

After winning on debut at Flemington, the Danny O’Brien-trained three-year-old finished second to Pronto Pronto before running fifth to All Too Hard in the Henry Bucks Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Others nominated for the McKenzie Stakes include Tennessee Wills, Axle and Adjuster.
