Peter Moody’s spring cups hope Lights Of Heaven will begin her new season campaign this Saturday having been nominated for two Warwick Farm races, one of which is the Toy Show Quality 2012.
Heading towards the staying majors this spring including the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 20 for which she is the $19 third favourite for at bookmaker.com.au, five-year-old Zabeel mare Lights Of Heaven will be one of the headliners at Warwick Farm this weekend.
Winner of the Eagle Farm Cup – Brisbane Cup double in Queensland during the winter Lights Of Heaven, who is also a chance for the 2012 Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November, has been dually nominated for Saturday.
She will resume in either the $175,000 Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) under weight-for-age conditions in open company or in the $100,000 Listed Toy Show Quality (1300m) which is a handicap event for fillies and mares.
A total of 21 hopefuls were nominated for the 2012 Toy Show Quality with other notable entries including the highly-rated John O’Shea-trained Steps In Time, John Thompson’s last start winner at the track New Beginning, and Aliyana Tilde.
Kerry Parker’s Snitzel four-year-old Aliyana Tilde was last seen finishing a devastatingly close second to Streama in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 21, before which she ran a credible third to Mosheen in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
Aliyana Tilde will be given another chance at Group 1 glory this season with Parker naming the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 6 as her major Sydney Spring Racing Carnival assignment.
While there are plenty of riches on offer during the season for the stayers, Parker knows that an Australian Oaks second as a three-year-old over 2400m doesn’t necessarily equate to a staying future for Aliyana Tilde.
He will be guided by her early runs however as to whether she is up to the grade for a shot at the Caulfield Cup 2012 in October.
“It’s a big step up from three-year-old fillies to open company,” he said.
“I don’t know if she’s up to a Caulfield Cup.
“She runs in the Toy Show and then we’ll work out how to get to the Epsom.
“We’ll play it by ear and let her tell us.”
In the latest Caulfield Cup odds at bookmaker.com.au Aliyana Tilde is a $61 roughie.
