Elite Elle’s Upset Win Over Samaready – 2012 Quezette Stakes

Talented filly Elite Elle kept her unbeaten streak alive as she upset Samaready to win the Listed 2012 Quezette Stakes (1100m) in heavy conditions at Caulfield on Saturday.

Samaready failed to fire in the Quezette Stakes

The Tony Vasil-trained youngster thrived in the heavy going to win by a length ahead of Agueda and Ephemera and record her first victory at stakes level.

Samaready failed to make an impact in he first hitout of the spring, struggling in the conditions to finish nearly nine lengths behind the winner in fourth position.

Undefeated from four career starts, Elite Elle has signalled her potential for bigger things this spring with Saturday’s one-length victory her shortest winning margin to date.

Given her wet-track ability, Vasil is weighing up whether to continue racing the daughter of Shamardal or to save her for the Thousand Guineas in October.

“It’s a matter of whether we make the most of this wet winter, or look at the Thousand Guineas,” Vasil said.

“She’s won three from three but the tracks have certainly helped her and they have been a problem for some of the others.”

Samaready trainer Mick Price said the heavy track was the reason for his stable star’s disappointing performance and she was still on track for the $1 million Golden Rose on September 15.

Samaready has drifted to $9.00 in the Golden Rose market following Saturday’s fourth-place effort with All Too Hard the favourite at $3.50.

The daughter of More Than Ready starred during her two-year-old career, winning her first four starts before finishing third in the Golden Slipper.
