Rekindled Interest On The Hunt For 2012 Cox Plate Success

Rekindled Interest is back in the hunt for this year’s 2012 Cox Plate after news broke of Atlantic Jewel’s absence from the race.

The five-year-old was in the mix during last year’s Cox Plate, where he finished a gallant third behind Pinker Pinker and Jimmy Choux.

Rekindled Interest

Rekindled Interest is at $21 to win the 2012 Cox Plate.

Trainer Jim Conlan understands the pain that Atlantic Jewel’s camp must be feeling, however, welcomes the opportunity her non-attendance brings.

“Look, it’s really terrible when something like that happens, devastating for those involved,” Conlan said.

“You don’t want it for racing, for the spring, it’s a terrible blow.

“But I’d be lying if I said it didn’t give me a bit more confidence.”

Rekindled Interest has won three of his 16 race starts and has earned more than $860,000 in prize money during his impressive career.

The Redoute’s Choice gelding had three starts during this year’s autumn racing carnival, with his best result being a second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes.

In that race Rekindled Interest was beaten on the line by a nose by surprise winner Metal Bender.

Conlan is confident that the gelding will be back to his best form in time for the spring racing carnival and namely the $3 million Cox Plate 2012.

However, Rekindled Interest will be forced to contest the likes of Golden Slipper winner Pierro and top mare More Joyous in the 2,040 metre race.

Despite the talented field, his trainer believes the competition will not be as tough as many expect.

“I know the race is still a fair way off but you look at More Joyous and wonder if she’s best at 2000m, if she can run races on her terms,” he said.

“And Pierro? Well how many champion two-year-olds win Cox Plates?”

Rekindled Interest is presently a $21 chance at to win the 2012 Cox Plate after Atlantic Jewel was removed from the market.

More Joyous is the $6 2012 Cox Plate favourite, while Pierro is on the second line of betting at $7.
