PB Lawrence Stakes 2012 Field Topped by Luckygray

Perth galloper Luckygray heads a strong field for Saturday’s Group 2 $220,000 2012 PB Lawerence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

The Gino Poletti-trained gelding is having his first hitout in the Victorian capital after starring in the west in recent times.

A son of Bradbury’s Luck, the five-year-old won the Group 1 Railway Stakes at Perth’s Summer Carnival and was unbeaten in three winter starts.

Luckygray completed a Group 3 treble when winning the Roma Cup, the Belmont Sprint and the Hyperion Stakes.

The horse that appears most likely to upset the Western Australian star is Cox Plate placegetter Rekindled Interest.

Saturday’s hitout will be the first of the spring for the Jim Conlan-trained five-year-old who will again be targeted at the Australasian weight-for-age championship.

Apart from last year’s Cox Plate third, Rekindled Interest also finished third in the Mackinnon Stakes and was a narrow runner-up in the George Ryder Stakes in the autumn.

Already in good form is recent Peter Moody stable addition Ready To Rip who will be chasing a third consecutive stakes victory.

Since joining the leading trainer’s stable from Queensland, the More Than Ready gelding has won both the Listed All Victorian Sprint and the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes.

Another in-form horse included in the field is Seymour-based gelding Zamorar who has finished in the top three in his last six starts.

The David Bourne-trained five-year-old is yet to score victory at stakes level but has come close on a number of occasions, finishing runner-up in the Creswick Stakes and Bletchingly Stakes and third in both the Monash Stakes and Aurie’s Star Handicap.

Other horses set to run in the PB Lawrence Stakes include German import Seville and last-start winner Bare Knuckle.

The PB Lawrence Stakes market will be opening in the next couple of days and the best place to back a winner is bookmaker.com.au.
