All Too Hard Heads Small 2012 San Domenico Stakes Field

Boom colt All Too Hard heads a small but quality field for Saturday’s Group 3 $$125,000 2012 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

The Golden Rose favourite makes a much-hyped return to racing, having last being seen finishing runner-up to Pierro in the Sires’ Produce Stakes in April.

A half-brother to Black Caviar, All Too Hard has drawn barrier two for his return race in which just six horses have been named to compete.

While racing fans will have to wait until later in the spring to see a rematch with Pierro, they are in for a treat on Saturday as star fillies Snitzerland and Driefontein are also turning out in the San Domenico.

Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland will be having her only run in Sydney before heading to Melbourne for four sprints including the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in September.

The two fillies will come from side by side out of the gates with Driefontein drawing barrer five and Snitzerland to come from the outside.

Tommy Berry will continue his association with Driefontein, having ridden the filly in all six of her career starts, while Corey Brown will be on board Snitzerland.

Snitzerland trainer Gerald Ryan said yesterday he has been pleased with the star filly’s work in the lead-up to Saturday’s race and is anticipating a good performance.

“She’s forward enough and good enough to win on Saturday. Even though she’s not 110 percent fit, she’s not far off it,” Ryan said.

Of the three other horses in the field, Anthony Cummings Golden Rose hopeful Ninth Legion has the best credentials.

A winner of two of three starts, Ninth Legion made his stakes debut at the Brisbane Winter Carnival with a respectable fifth-place effort in the Group 1 TJ Smith.

The other horses in the field are John O’Shea-trained filly Don’t Blink and Norman Rogers’ Matavai who will be making her city debut.
