Starlight Stakes 2012 – Nominations

As the top spring racing approaches, the best horses in the country begin to make their returns and a quality 15-horse nominations list has been announced for Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Starlight Stakes (1100m).

One of the top nominations for the Starlight Stakes is star colt All Too Hard but it is unclear whether the youngster will line up as he is also nominated for the San Domenico Stakes as well as the Vain Stakes in Melbourne.

Almost certain to return in the open age sprint this Saturday is emerging mare Satin Shoes who finished third to Sepoy in last year’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The Clarry Connors-trained four-year-old stepped up to open company in the autumn but failed to make an impact in three starts at Group 1 level.

The daughter of Flying Spur did however produce a highlight when a close runner-up to Rain Affair in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Rosehill in March.

While a number of horses will be making their return in Saturday’s race, one already in good form is See The World who has only finished outside the top three once in his past six starts.

The Joe Pride-trained sprinter secured his breakthrough stakes victory in June in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes and also finished runner-up in last month’s Listed Winter Stakes at Warwick Farm.

Nominated for his second start of the preparation is 2011 Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls who was disappointing first-up in the William Martin Harvey Sprint at Moonee Valley when sixth and four lengths behind winner Freereturn.

Joining the seven-year-old as one of the more experienced horses in the field is Skytrain who finally returned to the winners circle last weekend after an 11-month drought.
