Snitzerland Ready for 2012 San Domenico Stakes

Gerald Ryan is confident Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland is in good condition ahead of her first start of the spring in Saturday’s Group 3 2012 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

Snitzerland returns this weekend in the San Domenico Stakes

The talented filly showed the first signs she will be able to make the often difficult transition to three-year-old racing earlier this month when she won a trial in comfortable fashion at Rosehill.

Ryan was pleased with both the trial form of the daughter of Snitzel and how she has progressed since the 900-metre hitout.

“She was good in the trial, she trialled nice and relaxed and quickened well at the top of the straight,” Ryan said.

“She’s done well since.”

In the lead-up to Saturday’s early spring test, Snitzerland galloped strongly this morning leaving Ryan confident she will produce close to her best on Saturday.

“She had a good gallop this morning on the course proper,” Ryan said.

“She’s forward enough and good enough to win on Saturday. Even though she’s not 110 percent fit, she’s not far off it.”

The winner of nearly $900,000 in prize money will have just the one race in Sydney before embarking on a sprints campaign in Melbourne.

The next target for Snitzerland will be the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 8 before contesting the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 28.

Ryan will then decide whether Snitzerland runs in the newly-formed $250,000 Blue Sapphire or heads straight to the eventual target of the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in early November.

Also nominated to return in Saturday’s three-year-old feature are boom colt All Too Hard and Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Driefontein.

Whether All Too Hard contests the San Domenico Stakes will be known tomorrow as the half-brother to Black Caviar is also nominated for the Listed Starlight Stakes.
