Queensland gelding Bold Glance has trialled impressively ahead of a Sydney spring campaign that will culminate in the Group 1 2012 Epsom Handicap (1600m) in October.
The former Doncaster placegetter won a trial on the Gold Coast this morning with leading Queensland jockey Chris Munce on board and trainer Norm Hilton is thrilled with the seven-year-old.
“I’m really happy with him, he just won the trial as he pleased,” Hilton said.
After a frustrating six months with illness and injury, the son of Sequalo returned to the winners circle late last month when taking out the Mount Franklin Handicap at Doomben.
The experienced gelding is set to have three starts in Sydney, beginning on Saturday week in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m).
Providing all goes to plan, Bold Glance will then contest the Group 3 Tramway Handicap (1400m) on September 8 before the ultimate goal of the Epsom taking place on October 6.
Munce has ridden the Toowoomba-based gelding on a number of occasions and Hilton is hoping he will travel to Sydney next week to assume the ride.
“Hopefully he [Munce] can head down to Sydney and ride him,” Hilton said.
A winner of nine of 35 starts and nearly $800,000 in prize money, Bold Glance’s career best form came in the autumn of 2011.
The seven-year-old won a number of races in his home state before heading to Sydney to finish third in both the Doncaster Prelude and the Doncaster Mile.
Also likely to contest Saturday week’s Warwick Stakes are Missile Stakes winner Pinwheel and 2011 Epsom winner Secret Admirer.
