Adnocon on 2012 Missile Stakes Mission

They may be at double figures in the Missile Stakes 2012 betting markets but Rosehill horseman Gerald Ryan has warned punters not to discount his veteran sprinter Adnocon in the big race at Warwick Farm this weekend.

Adnocon

Adnocon is in with a shot for the 2012 Missile Stakes according to their trainer Gerald Ryan

Seven-year-old Clang gelding Adnocon is one of eight horses engaged in this year’s $125,000 Group 3 McGrath Missile Stakes (1200m), the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival’s first Group race copping some criticism for the seemingly below par field.

Dominating the Missile Stakes odds at bookies around the country, including the Races.com.au’s number one recommended bookmaker.com.au, is Peter Snowden’s track specialist and first-up ace Pinwheel ($2.60) who ran third to classy Rain Affair in this event last year.

The other shorties in the market, both coming off a Group 1 run in the autumn, are then Joe Pride’s Title ($3.50) and the rails-drawn Centennial Park ($6.50).

A little further down the Missile Stakes betting market is then Adnocon paying $12.

Drawn ideally in gate four with Blake Shinn to ride, Adnocon was last seen running fifth in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm on July 21 before which they won their third stakes race with a victory in the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m).

Still fit and ready to fire Adnocon returned to Sydney after a short break in Queensland and Ryan is confident they are in good form for the Missile.

“He has done well, looks well,” Ryan said.

“He has freshened-up good, I wasn’t going to run him until the Show County in two weeks but he worked real good last Saturday and I started thinking about this race.

“A small field but there still looks to be enough speed in it for him. He’ll get back and run home.”

The 2012 Missile Stakes is set to run as Warwick Farm Race 6 at 3:35pm (local time) on Saturday.

The Races.com.au team will be publishing their exclusive Missile Stakes tips shortly so stay tuned.
