Belmont Newmarket 2012 – Field and Barriers

Nine horses have been named in the final field to contest the Listed $80,000 2012 Belmont Newmarket (1200m) in Perth on Saturday.

Carrying the topweight of 59.5kg will be veteran gelding Hadabeclorka who will be having his 51st start when he runs from barrier six.

Despite being 11 years old, the Bunbury-based gelding has shown signs he can still match in the west recently with some promising performances throughout the winter.

The son of Hurricane Sky finished fifth to Luckygray in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint and ran third last start in the Listed Beaufine Stakes on July 28.

Werd will be having just his second start back after a successful autumn campaign and will be looking to build on a fifth-place finish in the Beaufine Stakes.

In the autumn the Chris Gangemi-trained gelding won the Listed WATC Stakes and also placed in the Listed Cyril Flower Stakes.

Beafuine Stakes winner Megem’s Boy will be looking score a second straight victory and runner-up in that race Latoria will also start on Saturday.

Trained by Jim Taylor, Latoria boasts a solid record of seven wins from 15 starts and has drawn favourably in barrier five.

The six-year-old mare won the Listed Summer Scorcher in December and finished third in the Miss Andretti Stakes in March.

Fresh off a break following a last-start victory in the Pinjarra Classic in March is Bites The Dust who will come from barrier eight with well-regarded jockey Shaun O’Donnell on board.

The seven-year-old has won seven wins from 20 starts and has not finished worse than fourth in her seven most recent starts.

Other horses set to contest Saturday’s Perth feature include George Daly-trained Vizard and veteran gelding Gum Nut Guru.
