A huge weight allocation of 63kg has put an end to a possible early return of Mosheen at Flemington this weekend.
The multiple Group 1 winner was nominated to make her first start since a highly successful autumn carnival in a 1410m handicap but trainer Robert Smerdon has ruled out a start following weights being released.
The Victorian trainer said Mosheen is ready to race and he will continue to look for possible early spring races for his stable star after she returned well in a barrier trial late last month.
“She will be entered in a number of places over the next couple of weeks and we will find something suitable for her in the near future,” Smerdon said.
Smerdon also confirmed that the primary target for the Fastnet Rock four-year-old this spring will be the prestigious Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 27.
A winner of seven of 14 starts and more more than $2.6 million in prize money, Mosheen had a successful debut spring last year when runner-up to Atlantic Jewel in the Thousand Guineas and winning the Group 1 Crown Oaks.
Mosheen currently occupies the fourth line of the bookmaker.com.au Cox Plate betting market at $13.00.
Topping the market is unbeaten mare Atlantic Jewel ($4.00) who will also make her return this month.
Star colt Pierro is at $9.00 after trainer Gai Waterhouse confirmed the Cox Plate, along with the Caulfield Guineas, would be the unbeaten three-year-old’s primary spring goal.
Fellow Gai Waterhouse-trained horse More Joyous is next best in the market at $13.00.
