She’s A Fox Leads 2012 The Rosebud Nominations

A collection of Golden Rose hopefuls will face off at Warwick Farm this Saturday in The Rosebud 2012 including one of the top fancies for the opening Group 1 race of the season, She’s A Fox.

She's A Fox

She's A Fox is the top fancy among the early 2012 The Rosebud nominations

Twelve three-year-olds make up the early entries for this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m) with nominations extended until 11am (local time) tomorrow.

Of the current 2012 The Rosebud nominees, the majority are using the race as a springboard into the upcoming $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday September 15.

The shortest-priced of The Rosebud entries in the futures Golden Rose odds then is the Anthony Cummings-trained She’s A Fox, the up-and-coming Fastnet Rock filly coming off a smart four length victory over 1100m at Warwick Farm on July 28.

That was her second victory from three career starts to date, She’s A Fox currently rated a $15 chance in the futures Golden Rose betting markets at that are led by Gai Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper winner Pierro ($3.50).

Cummings could also be represented in The Rosebud on Saturday by his lightly-raced colt Ninth Legion, a $51 Golden Rose chance.

Also by Fastnet Rock Ninth Legion won their opening two starts in Sydney during the winter before their credible fifth to Sizzling in the Group 1 The TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 9.

Both She’s A Fox and Ninth Legion are dually nominated for Saturday’s Warwick Farm meeting with the latter a possible chance in the $125,000 Missile Stakes (1200m).

“It will all depend on what the nominations look like for both races,” Cummings said.

“At this stage both horses will be running (on Saturday).

“The original plan was the Rosebud but we could make a switch if we have too (with one).

“She’s A Fox came through her first-up win in very good order and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman and Peter (Robl) is going to be on Ninth Legion, a horse he has a big opinion of.”

While in “pretty good shape” according to Cummings, whether She’s A Fox runs in Saturday’s The Rosebud will also depend on the weight she is allocated in The Rosebud.

“First things first, it’s a matter of whether she gets a weight he (Bowman) can ride at so we’ll just go from there,” Cummings said.

The other most notable The Rosebud entry heading into the Golden Rose is Chris Waller’s Fastnet Rock filly Jade Marauder who pays $26 to win the Group 1 showdown next month.

After winning the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in March Jade Marauder failed in the Golden Slipper when beating home just one other runner.

Waller has also nominated for his Lonhro colt Fundido, last seen running a disappointing 14th to Driefontein in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic back in January at the Gold Coast, for Saturday’s race.

There are also three other last start winners entered for The Rosebud along with likely favourite She’s A Fox with the John Thompson-trained Longport, Wendy Roche’s Patsy Girl, the Tim Martin-trained Red Dynamite and Urquidez who comes off a win over 1100m at Warwick Farm.

Mornington horseman Jason Warren meanwhile will use The Rosebud as a Golden Rose lead-up for his VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up Pronto Pronto, the Snitzel colt tipped for improvement as they go up in distance this prep.

“The Rosebud will let us know how he is going,” Warren said.

“The plan is for him to go into the Golden Rose third-up so he will come home for a race at Caulfield between the two Sydney races.”
