Golden Rose 2012 Odds Update

There is just over a month to go before the Group 1 racing kicks off for the 2012-13 season, and in anticipation of the 2012 Golden Rose Stakes below we have a look at the three-year-olds dominating the futures betting on the classic.

All Too Hard

All Too Hard (pictured) will start favourite in the 2012 Golden Slipper odds if Pierro doesn't accept

Set to run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday September 15, the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) is the first major punting opportunity for race fans during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and is shaping up as a cracker showdown this year.

Futures Golden Rose odds at our preferred online bookie bookmaker.com.au opened this week and three horses have been installed as single-figure chances with:

  • Pierro ($3.50) – Gai Waterhouse’s undefeated Lonhro colt boasts three Group 1 victories including the Golden Slipper, is the horse to beat but may bypass the race and be aimed at the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate 2012 in Melbourne later
  • All Too Hard ($3.80) – Boom half-brother of Black Caviar, won their opening three including dual Group 2’s before their second to Pierro in the Sires Produce in April, more mature this time in and is tipped for improvement after their good second in a 900m barrier trial to Snitzerland on Friday (August 3)
  • Samaready ($6) – Smart More Than Ready filly enjoyed four wins including the Blue Diamond Stakes before her good third in the Golden Slipper, needs to handle step up in distance but has the class and the right form against the boys

Other early hopefuls following in the pre-field Golden Rose betting odds include the Anthony Cummings-trained Your Song ($12) who won back-to-back Sydney races during the winter, Waterhouse’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning filly Driefontein ($13), and TJ Smith runner-up Kabayan ($14) also from Tulloch Lodge.

John Thompson’s lightly-raced Fastnet Rock filly Nechita and Cummings’ recent Warwick Farm winner She’s A Fox, also a daughter of Fastnet Rock, follow on $15 before Waterhouse’s Champagne Stakes failure Raceway and the Gerald Ryan-trained Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland round out the under $20 chances paying $17 each.
