Aiden O’Brien’s undefeated young colt Camelot has opened at the top of the early market at the Aussie bookmakers to win on of France’s most prestigious events, the 2012 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in October.
Proving to be the best online bookie for not just local markets but the international features as well, bookmaker.com.au this week released their futures markets for the €4,000,000 Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (2400m) on October 7, 2012 with Montjeu three-year-old Camelot the clear $4 favourite.
A winner of all five of their career starts to date, the last four of which have been at elite level in Europe, Camelot is also proven over the 2400-metres.
They first saw the distance at Epsom Downs when winning the Derby in June by an easy five lengths on Good ground.
Last start they rose to the occasion again this time on a Heavy rated track to put two lengths on Born To Sea in the Group 1 Irish Derby (2414m) on June 30.
Two other horses are also currently paying under $10 in the latest Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe odds at bookmaker.com.au with reigning champion Danedream and Nathaniel paying $7 each.
Smart Lomitas mare Danedream has won two of her past three starts most recently hanging on in a tight finish with Nathaniel in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2414m) at Royal Ascot on July 21.
Twelve months ago she won the Prix De l’Arc by an impressive five lengths on the back of a stunning campaign, the victory coming on the back of a winning Group 1 double in Germany.
Nathaniel meanwhile won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes last year before their second to Danedream, John Gosden’s Galileo four-year-old already a dual Group 1 winner having also won the Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park this year.
Other notable early hopefuls at slightly longer odds include ace Japanese galloper Orfevre ($12) who could also be 2012 Melbourne Cup bound this spring, Valyra ($12) and recent Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Cornoation Cup winner St Nicholas Abbey who is also prepared in Ireland by O’Brien.
