In-form mare Erinsea is set to fly the flag for the local contingent in tomorrow’s $80,000 2012 Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m).
The Brett Dodson-trained gelding suffered bruising to her hooves following her last start second in the Sky Racing Mothers Gift at Grafton but has made a full recovery ahead of the local feature.
Prior to the runner-up finish at Grafton, the daughter of Tycoon Ruler had scored four consecutive victories and appears primed for the biggest test of her career.
Dodson said it would be a huge thrill to win the cup and believes his charger is in good condition heading into the event.
“To win the cup would be a huge buzz,” he said.
“She’s worked as good as she ever has and she’s as good as she’s ever been.”
The Coffs Harbour trainer said neither a possible wet track or a wide barrier draw provided concerns for the six-year-old who is expected to be ridden mid-field.
Currently being offered at $8.50 by bookmaker.com.au, Erinsea will have to beat a number of more highly-rated competitors including black-type winners Youthful Jack ($4.60) and Pepperwood ($5.50).
An eight-time black-type winner, Youthful Jack will come from the inside barrier with apprentice Cassandra Schmidt on board.
The Ross Stitt-trained gelding was allocated 62kg but will get in with 60kg after the apprentice claim and will come from the inside barrier.
Pepperwood will have to bounce back from some back-field finishes in his two most recent starts but impressed at the Brisbane Witner Carnival when winning the Listed Spear Chief Handicap.
Another local hope is Toucan Ukelele ($15.00) who will be stepping up in class after winning three of his last four starts.
The Coffs Harbour market is now open at the Australian-owned bookmaker.com.au so join today to back a winner.
