Eagle Falls Needs Dry Track to Return

Group 1 winner Eagle Falls has again been named to make his return but the weather will decide whether the David Hayes-trained gelding lines up in Saturday’s $80,000 William Martin Harvey Sprint (1000m) at MooneeValley.

Eagle Falls

Eagle Falls has been named to return from a spell at Moonee Valley on Saturday

The former Oakleigh Plate champion has been entered in two previous races but has been withdrawn on both occasions as Hayes continues to wait for a dry surface.

A son of Hussonet, if Eagle Falls does line up it will be his first race since April where he finished four lengths off Tiger Tees when ninth in the Hall Mark Stakes.

After getting his autumn preparation off to a flyer with a win in the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes, the experienced gelding failed to further impress as he laboured at the back of the field in his next four starts.

Allocated 62kg for Saturday’s hit-out, Eagle Falls will get in with 60kg after an apprentice claim from Jake Duffy.

Set to run from barrier two, the topweight will be up against some tough opposition including Peter Moody’s One Last Dance.

Having not raced in nearly 18 months, One Last Dance has an unbeaten record and will come from barrier one in her return gallop.

The four-year-old mare was last seen in February 2011 when winning the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude by nearly a length.

Also set to run in the Moonee Valley sprint on Saturday is Mornington-based gelding Freereturn who boasts a solid career record of seven wins from 19 starts.

The Jason Warren-trained sprinter made his black-type debut earlier this year when third in the Anniversary Vase at Caulfield.
