John Thompson’s Tattersall’s Tiara winner Pear Tart is back in pre-training in Sydney gearing up for a supercharged spring campaign that will culminate with a run in the Myer Classic 2012 during the iconic four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival.
A rising four-year-old daughter of Dehere, Pear Tart took her career record to six wins from nine starts for a tickle under $585,000 in prize money after a stunning Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival crusade.
After back-to-back wins at Eagle Farm at Class 3 level Pear Tart was thrown into the deep end in June when stepped up to stakes company for the first time in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m).
Thriving on the Heavy (8) track she easily took care of her rivals beating home Hawkesbury Guineas winner Free Wheeling to win.
Next start she took it to the next level posting her fourth straight turf triumph becoming a Group 1 winner with a narrow victory over Skyerush in the Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on June 23.
Pear Tart is currently in light work at Hawkesbury and will return to Thompson’s Flemington base at the end of August.
After her Tattersall’s success Thompson named the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse on Victoria Derby Day, Saturday November 3, as an attractive spring option and that is still the grand final goal at this stage.
“At the moment I plan to go into the Myer Classic at Flemington on Derby Day at her third run back,” Thompson said.
Another Myer Classic 2012 bound filly this year is dual Group 1 winner Streama who in an interesting decision by trainer Guy Walter will be kept to a mile next prep despite the daughter of Stratum having own the Group 1 Australian Oaks over 2400m at Randwick last time out in April.
Myer Classic nominations are due to be taken on October 29, 2012.
