Big Field for 2012 Coffs Harbour Cup

A full field of 16 horses plus four emergencies has been named to contest Thursday’s $80,000 2012 Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m).

Youthful Jack

Youthful Jack is the topweight in the Coffs Harbour Cup

Set to carry the topweight is multiple black-type winner Youthful Jack who has been allocated 62kg but will get in with 60kg following a two-kilogram claim from apprentice jockey Cassandra Schmidt.

The experienced gelding will come from the inside barrier and will be out to add another victory to his resume that stands at 16 wins from 51 starts.

Based in Taree, the rising seven-year-old has collected over $900,000 in prize money but has not scored victory from five winter starts.

Fellow veteran Pepperwood will come from barrier six with Danny Nikolic on board and also has multiple black-type wins to his name.

The rising eight-year-old’s most recent win came four starts ago when he produced a dominant performance to take out the Listed Spear Chief Handicap by more than a length.

Joining Pepperwood in making the trip south from Queensland is Pat Duff-trained gelding Ausworld who will have to overcome the obstacle of a tough barrier 19 draw.

One horse heading into the race in good form is local mare Erinsea who has won four times and finished runner-up twice in her six most recent starts.

Trained by Brett Dodson, the daughter of Tycoon Ruler will be facing the toughest test of her career on Saturday but performed well against a number of metropolitan horses when runner-up in the Sky Racing Mother’s Gift at the Grafton Cup Carnival.

Also heading into the race with recent success behind them is fellow Coffs Harbour product Toucan Ukelele.

The Brett Bellamy-trained gelding has won three of his four most recent starts including a dominant 2 1/2 length victory at Taree last Friday.

Other hrosres set to line up include Stephen Farley-trained Wishwyn and last-start winner Save A Buck.

A huge two-day carnival beginning tomorrow takes place in Coffs Harbour so head to to back a carnival winner.
