Lightning Stakes 2012 Tips

A number of promising fillies will be on show in Adelaide tomorrow for the Listed $80,000 2012 Lightning Stakes (1050m).

Open to both two and three-year-old horses, many in the 11-horse field are making the trip east after achieving success in Sydney or Melbourne.

With Monash Stakes winner Platelet scratched, Peter Moody-trained filly Le Societe is the new betting favourite at $2.70.

Robert Smerdon-trained youngster Demasheen ($4.20) occupies the second line of betting with local horse Avoid Lightning the next best at $8.00.

Diamond Earth ($9.00) is the only other horse to fall under double figures with Melbourne filly Vatican rounding out the top five in the market.

Don’t have time to study the form? Unsure who to back? have done the job for you and bring to you our expert selections for tomorrow’s Morphetville feature.

The Winner

#13 Diamond Earth $9.00

She may be one of the few two-year-olds in the race but the Anthony Cummings-trained youngsters has shown plenty of promise in her young career.

Already a winner of more than $450,000 thanks to some Inglis bonus races, two starts back she beat a number of promising fillies in the Arrowfield Handicap at Scone before finishing second to Princess Series-bound Nechita at Warwick Farm last start.

She’s drawn well in barrier two and should have the talent to cause trouble for her older rivals.

The Placings

#6 Le Societe $2.70 and #3 Avoid Lighting $8.00

Le Societe has won three of five starts and produced a solid effort last start in open company when fourth in the Monash Stakes.

She returns to own age group to run from barrier four with Linda Meech on board and looks well placed to finish near the front of the field.

Avoid Lightning steps up in class but has form at the track and her early career record of four wins from five starts is hard to ignore.

Agree that Diamond Earth will be good enough to win the Lightning Stakes? Fancy your own selections? Whichever way you are headed sign up at to back a weekend winner.

Home of the $300 bonus bet, is fully Australian owned and has excellent odds on all this weekend’s top racing action.
