There is almost nothing between the top two elects in the betting market for Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Winter Challenge (2012) at Warwick Farm.
Forty Thirty ($4.40) and Irish Dream ($4.60) are both battling for top spot in the bookmaker.com.au market, with both bringing strong form into the race.
Trained by Clinton McDonald, Forty Thirty will be stepping up to Listed level for the first time and has not finished worse than third in his six most recent starts.
The promising gelding has drawn a favourable barrier five position which is far better than Irish Dream who will come from the outside with Glyn Schofield on board.
A daughter of Falbrav, Irish Dream will be stepping up to 1600 metres for the second time of her career but has form on her side.
The Ron Quinton-trained mare backed up consecutive placings at Rosehill with a black-type victory last start, winning the Listed Winter Stakes on July 14.
Next best in the Winter Challenge market is David Payne-trained gelding Winning Glory who is currently being offered at $5.50.
But the rising five-year-old will have to bounce back from a disappointing effort last outing where he finished 15 lengths off the lead when sixth at Flemington on July 7.
Paying $6.50, Erewhon is the next best in the market and is coming off a last-start win at Warwick Farm on June 23.
Former Group 2 winner King Lionheart ($7.00) is the next best in the market while last-start winner Spinnawitch follows him at $8.50.
After a 14-month break, Spinnawitch returned to excellent winning form two weeks ago when winning a BM83 Handicap by nearly three lengths at Warwick Farm.
Other horses set to contest the Winter Challenge include Bede Murray-trained World Wide ($13.00) and Melbourne-based mare Our Pride And Joy ($15.00).
